A Little Self-Care Moment…
This week I thought I would do something a little fun. Face masks! Seriously, who doesn’t love to treat themselves with a good mask? One of my favorite things to do is to make my own. That way I know exactly what is in them, and I can control the ingredients based on what results I want.
This Healing Clay Turmeric Face Mask is one of my favorites. Its ingredients are basic and easy to find, and it works amazingly well. You only need three ingredients for this mask: bentonite clay, turmeric powder, and apple cider vinegar. That’s it! To make it even easier, you can replace the ACV with water.
Healing Clay Turmeric Face Mask:
My favorite brand of bentonite clay is The Aztec Secret Indian Healing Bentonite Clay. It’s widely available in stores and online, and it is not crazy expensive. And it WORKS.
Bentonite Clay unclogs pores, and helps control sebum production. It improves circulation to the skin’s surface, so it can make your face seem very red after use. It will calm down after a little while, and then your face will be glowing! Bentonite has many other benefits and possible uses, and I recommend you look into them! This clay is amazing.
*As with anything you put on your skin, it is recommended that you patch test before using on your entire face*
Turmeric is a spice, and is widely used in recipes to provide healing benefits. But it also does amazing things when used topically!
Curcumin, the primary ingredient of turmeric, is anti-inflammatory and has antioxidant properties. This makes it terrific for treating acne and scarring. It also gives you a fabulous glow.
Used over time, turmeric can help minimize and regulate oil production.
A note: turmeric is a gorgeous golden color. I love using it on my skin, but I can only use it at night. Why? Because sometimes I look a bit yellow afterwards. In reality, you wash your face after using the mask, and in the morning, so by then it goes away. I would not do this the night before a big event, just in case.
Apple Cider Vinegar:
ACV is wonderful. It is made with organic apples and goes through a double fermentation process. This brings out all kinds of yummy goodness for your skin.
ACV contains alpha-hydroxy acids that help to exfoliate and remove dead skin, revealing soft, smooth skin after use. Apple Cider Vinegar also contains malic acid, which is antibacterial, antiviral, and antifungal. This makes it a great treatment for acne! Frequent use can help to control breakouts. ACV can also help to balance the pH of your skin. This is one of the reasons it is used as a toner.
*You should dilute ACV before using it on your face. It can burn you if used straight. In this mask, it is mixed with other ingredients, and I have not had an issue. However, you should always do a patch test, and keep in mind your skin sensitivity. You can easily use half water, and half ACV, etc.
Skin Care Reminder
As always, keep your skin in mind, and adjust according to sensitivities. If you have never used a clay mask before I would recommend only leaving it on for 3-5 minutes. If your skin is used to similar treatments, you can leave it on for longer. Don’t forget that this mask increases circulation, and brings a lot of blood to the skin’s surface. That redness will subside so don’t panic.
I really hope you give this healing clay turmeric face mask a try, and love it! Every time I use it, I feel so soft and glowy afterwards, and I notice immediate results in my skin tone and texture. Make sure you share this with your mask loving friends! And why not plan a masking date with a friend?! Make it a girl’s night, a movie night, a date night, a guy’s spa day, whatever you want!
Let me know what you think of the turmeric mask. One of my favorite things to do for self-care is a DIY natural face mask. I hope you give it a try, and maybe add it in to your routine!
