Learning to Live Mindfully: Journey to Mindful Living

Hey Y’all!
Thanks for stopping by Rock Your Renegade and Renegade Fibers. As you can probably tell: I make jewelry! But what you may not know is that I live a modern bohemian life as an upper 20-something in Oklahoma City. My husband, Jason, and I are originally from Dallas, TX, but are currently stationed here in OKC.
I wanted to start Rock Your Renegade for many reasons. The most basic of which is that I want to be able to share more about my life other than what jewelry I’m creating. But on top of that, I want to be able to share my journey with you, in the hopes that together we can be inspired and empowered. I want this to become a community of love and encouragement.
You see, not only am I on a journey to pursue my passions as a creative soul, but I am on a journey to live a more mindful life. I want to learn to be present, and to stop living in the constant state of stress that has somehow become the norm. I want to create my dream life!

Discovering Mindfulness

Mindfulness and self-care have become major focuses of mine over the past few years. I struggle with feeling overwhelmed, a need to always be doing something, and constant feelings of “I didn’t accomplish enough, I should be able to do more.” So I am working to change. To make my life easier, and happier. Because I deserve to live my best, most beautiful life. And so do you.
I discovered the concept of mindfulness in my mid-twenties. Throughout my early years at college, I struggled with finding myself, amidst dealing with some family drama. When I finally decided to put more of an emphasis on becoming “me” I came upon the term “mindful living.” A vast amount on Pinterest research later, and I had become familiar with the basic principles of learning to live mindfully. Taking in the present moments, enjoying the little things, and not always looking onto what’s next were strange topics to me. Ones that even now I sometimes struggle to understand. But the idea of this simpler, more peaceful way of living intrigued me. I wanted that beautiful dream life, where I could live my passions, and enjoy the moments.

Focusing on Self-Care

Alongside mindfulness, I stumbled upon the idea of self-care. Setting aside time for you to unwind and reset. Doing something just for you. A completely, and acceptably selfish act. I loved the idea.
Self-care means something different to everyone, I think. To some, it’s sitting quietly with their morning coffee and mentally preparing for the day ahead. To others, its unwinding with a glass of wine and a good book. Sometimes it’s yoga, sometimes it’s meditating, and sometimes it’s filling up the tub and throwing in a fun bath bomb. But for everyone, it’s setting aside a few moments for yourself, to do what you want in order to make yourself feel less stressed, less frazzled, more in touch, and more grounded. It means to make time for you, completely.

People have tons of ideas to share, and a lot of different types of ways to practice self-care. You can make a list of some ideas that pique your interest, and give them a try over the next couple weeks. Here are some of my favorites.

Learn to Rock Your Renegade

With these two concepts, I began my journey into bettering myself, and creating a better life. It is not a quick journey, not something to rush. It is one of a lifetime. It’s resetting the way you think, and the way you live. It is hard to do, and I will have great moments of triumph, and great moments of failure. But from my experience so far, it is absolutely worth it.
So, I would like to invite you along. We can grow together, and empower each other to create that dream life, whatever it may be. The biggest thing holding us back is ourselves. So let’s break free.
